The Signal & Telegraph Department
 |
The Signal and Telegraph Department provides and maintains all of the East Lancashire Railway's signalling equipment. This presently ranges from simple ground frames, signal boxes, signals and also electrical and mechanical detection and interlocking.

S&T report - 14/08/2010
A very brief and boring report this week, as the main activity is still dealing with the influx of materials from the Jarvis recoveries. The new container now has an electricity supply, and therefore some lights. It's also filling up fast, though as we assess what we have and group the common items together we expect to be able to condense the stores and hopefully fit it all in, so we get our workshop back.
The north end store has been reorganised a little, so some more items can be squeezed in there. Unfortunately our plan to shift more gear down from Townsend Fold fell over when the expected transport was not available, however, in reality we had enough to do around Bury so this wasn't a huge problem.
We've now filled a skip with all the modern (ie useless) signal post parts and assorted heavy scrap iron which had been gathered from around the site.
Late on in the day, the point machines round Bury got a spot of lubrication, as did the slide chairs on all the points, as several of these were noted to be on the dry side, making the mechanical points difficult to work. One of the sets of points in the sidings required a little adjustment as the switch was 'standing off' (open, away from the stock rail) enough to prevent the signal reading over it from being cleared.
